Has anyone ever needed to purchase engine replacement parts for their Chinese import motorcycle?
I am looking to gather information on engine replacement parts for vehicles from Zongshen, Lifan, Kymco, Keeway, etc. I'm interested in knowing what type of vehicle you own, what parts you replaced and how you went about finding the parts. I'm struggling to find dealers for these bikes let alone parts to repair them. Your thoughts and comments are appreciated!

  Unfortunately you are learning what many people have also learned. If you buy cheap crap from China you are throwing away your money. You can try to take the broken parts to a Honda dealership and see if the parts dept. can match it with something, I had heard that the Chinese have ripped off the Honda designs more then any other.

Zongshen 250 parts from australia??
I own a Zongshen Zs250GS and a Storm V-twin Zs250-5. I have ridden over 1000 miles on each bike. I also have the Sierra model and am selling it currently. Was wondering if anyone knows how to order Zongshen parts from Australia for shipping to the US? The aussie versions have differnt exhaust and less smog stuff!

Also anyone who wants info on these bikes please contract me, I have been riding over 33 years and have owned 23 different motorcycles!

QUESTION:
Is this a good motorcycle buy for a frist timer?
i am buying a 2007 zongshen GS 250 for 800 dollars that has around 200 miles on it.
is this a good deal, i read around and people bash the hell out of zongshen because on forums, people are serious about "american made only" motorcycles. do you think kawasaki is an american word?? other research says that this bike is compairable to the ninja 250, just without the name brand and the extra 1 to 2 grand i would have to spend.

this is my first bike ever, i plan on having it for no more than 2 years and this is the bike i am going learn on. i only weigh 120 and im 5'7''

i think i am getting a good deal. i am familiar with motors, carbs, trans, etc. ive been a mechanic for 5 years now, so if the bike breaks im not scared i wont know how to fix it or i wont feel screwed over or worried. since its made in china too. im pretty sure it would be cheap to fix, just hard to find after market parts for it.

what do you think. is this a good deal for a new rider.

I need an idler gear for a 1994 yz250 yamaha dirt bike. A new gear costs 70.00 plus tax, and I also need a 12.00 kickback spring. My son and I are going to a junkyard today that has a very good selection of bikes. I know there are no yz250's there because we looked before. What are the chances I might be able to find a compatible gear in another bike to use for my yz250 Idler gear and spring? Thank you....

  Or you can get some gasket material at Local Auto Parts place and cut out your own gasket.
  It's not a gasket that requires very hi precision fit unlike some,,,,so it's relatively easy to do a "homemade " one.

  a reputable mechanic and about 0...

  I would not recommend someone that asks what all is needed in parts to do a complete engine overhaul. not being mean in the least. this is not a simple, fast, easy or cheap task,,,

  but if you insist... piston kit (piston, rings, wrist pin, wrist pin bearing, wrist pin clips), crank bearings, crank seals, possible crank shaft. while you are down into the engine this far, might as well replace waterpump seals, clutch plates, clutch springs and an entire gasket kit... when did you replace chain, sprockets and wheel bearings? what about steering head bearings? brake pads, rotors, swing arm bearings....

  this is a multi hour and very expensive process!!! get a professional

  What year YZ 250?
  As mentioned, mount a quality set of tires. Change the fork oil. Set the suspension sag. Depending on your weight, different fork springs may be called for.
  There are many articles that explain how to set up an off road bike's suspension.

  I tried looking at parts schematics to see if the plastics, seats are compatible and since the bikes are '85, the part numbers were not available. In the past, most 125's and 250's of the same manufacturer did share common components like seats, plastics, suspensions, wheels, radiators, sub-frames, gas tanks, etc.. The only differences being the electrics, carburetors, engines, exhausts, and frames. It's a fairly safe bet that the '85 is no different.

QUESTION:
How much horsepower would a YZ250 have when I put mods and everything on?
If I put the best mods the best racing parts and a red power band on what would be the top speed and what would be the mam horsepower. Also how much is a red power band for a YZ250

  you will have to get it dyno tested to find the final hp results as each bike is tuned slightly different. as for finding your final top speed you will have to know the bikes max RPM, primary transmission gearing, and the final drive gear ratio, the final drive gear ratio will be easy to calculate cause it's on the outside of the bike. below is the formula on how to find out your bikes final MPH....now keep in mind that in order to gain speed you have to have a bigger sprocket on the motor and a smaller sprocket on the rear, but that will also take away some of the acceleration (your take off speed will be slower).

  This is the formula for MPH:

  Pi * tire diameter = circumfrence.

  Circumfrence / 12 = circumfrence in feet.

  Primary transmission gears / Engine sprocket teeth / Wheel sprocket teeth = gear ratio.

  Engine RPMs / Gear Ratio = Wheel RPMS (wRPM)

  Tire circumfrence in feet * wRPM = feet per minute.

  Feet per minute * 60 = feet per hour.

  Feet per hour / 5280 = miles per hour.

Is Yamaha and Honda going to keep making 2 stroke dirt bikes such as the YZ250 and the CR250R?

  NO the EPA and DEQ has stuck their noses into "off road" pollution issues . Then the AMA allowed 4 stroke bikes twice the CC's to compete against 2 strokes.There is not a four stroke that can compete heads up with ANY 2 stroke of same CC's.Not sure about parts ,most wear items should be available from after market for a wile.

  If you have the vin, then you have the date, if you have the engine then you have the cc and make. this should tell you exactly what it is.

I have an 01 cr125 should I trade for a 03 yz250?
My bike has many aftermarkets and has just got all rebuilt top, bottom end, and a new clutch basket and plates and many other parts. Is it worth trading for a almost stock 2003 yz250?

• ANSWER:
  I would only trade if you find your 125 doesn't make enough power for you. The 250 is going to have a much harder pull off of the bottom and have a little bit more meat and grunt throughout all of the rpms. Also the suspension on the 250 will be better than on your 125 once you get it set up for your weight. For the aftermarkets it depends what they are and how they make the 125 run.

QUESTION:
Is the bolt on the right side (tranny side) of the '02 YZ250 crankshaft, left or right hand threads?
Im splitting the case on my '02 YZ250 and dont know which way to turn the bolt on the right hand side of the crank. Looking at the right side, the crank turns clockwise when running which suggests to me that the bolt would be left hand threads. There are no markings on it and the part doesnt cross reference as a left hand bolt.

  A power band does not "work"; it is a measure of your engine's power delivery characteristics. Your engine has obviously not been put back together properly. If you did it yourself, get a workshop manual and go over the engine again. If a shop did it, take it back and complain.

Im 15 years old, about 6 feet tall and I weigh about 210 pounds. I have been looking at a used 03 Yamaha YZ250. Its got some after market parts and the engine has been rebuilt. He wants 2100 for it and I need to know if its the right size and if the price is reasonable. Also this isnt the first time Ive ridden a bike... The closest thing I have ridden to it is an old YZ125.

I bought a used motorcycle the guy told me it was a 2002 yz250 I am going to race with it so I bought all?
kinds of new parts and when I started putting them on the bike none of them were fitting I called yamaha and when they seached by the vin number they say the bike is a 99 yz250. I called the store I got it from and they just hung up on me. My receipt says I bought 2002 and I am now out about 600 for all the accessories I bought that wont fit on the bike. What should be my next step and can I get back any of the money Im out for the parts? I bought most on ebay so I cant return them. Thanks

  attack the dealership, im sure what they did was fraudulent

  In all fairness, the people that sold you the parts on ebay, are not responsible in any way, if they have a return policy, take advantage of it, perhaps they will allow you to ship it back in exchange for parts that fit that bike.

  If they dont, well your just gogin to have to suck it up, i would show up at the dealership with the bike after learning about the penalties for doing what they did, and try to make a deal with them, you've got a lot of negotiating ground with the dealerhsip that sold you the bike, perhaps they will be willing to make a deal with you for not holding what they did against them and them not suffering from legal actions, In the end, if you didnt waste any of your money, you have a bike to race, and all of your parts fit it, both parties should be satiisfied, figfure out a way to make it work.

  Also, what the guy told you is one thing, what it says on the title transfer sheet is another, if they sold you the title to a 2002 bike, the vin on the title shouldnt even be the vin on the bike you onw and most likley they simply gave you the wrong bike off the showroom flor, which is an unlikely but understandable mistake, maybe the 2k2 bike iss still at the dealership unbeknownst to you and them.

  Check the vin on your sales receipt, if its different from the one on your bike, take the bike back and demand they give you the bike wiht that vin, or refund yoru purchase, you could then go hunt down a 2002 250, and your purchased parts would become usefull.

  If the vin on the sales receipt matched the vin of the bike, and says 2k2, the dealership will be in big trouble and you shoudl try to negotiate a settlment

I was gonna buy a yz250 but i think i wanna buy a cr250 for about 00 or a little bit more. But i wanna save up and buy one in about 2-3 years and since honda doesnt produce them anymore, do you think there would still be a good used market for the cr250 in 2-3 years? And would parts and tools be available still?

  The CR250 will be around for years. Honda stopped making it 4 years ago and it's become more popular since. Take the CR500 as an example. There are chat forums, websites and allsorts relating to them, and they stopped producing that in 2001. Service Honda are already making a CR250 that's worth checking out, expensive though!

  Find the 17 character VIN on the bikes frame. VIN should be stamped into the frame, usually around the steering stem. Go from left to right and count to the 10th character. See what the 10th character is and look at the chart below to determine the year.

QUESTION:
YZ250 Problems?
I own a 1996 YZ250 and recently it started having problems. First it blows a huge amount of smoke and oil out of the exhaust, and worst part of all it does not idle. I'm running 32-1 mix, I don't know whats happening I'll probably have to check the spark plug and rebuild the carburetor and rejet it, but that doesnt explain why its blowing off huge amounts of smoke and oil, my best guess would be the seals went bad, or something. Any thoughts?
Today I just cleaned the carb, jets, all clean, but I put in a gallon of gas with 32-1 but ill try with 40-1 if it still smoking, ill have to rebuild it

  most likely you are running to rich of a mixture. i would go to a 40:1 especially if you are riding mainly trails/bogging the bike. you may also need to adjust the jetting. you could try draining tank and putting in fresh gas. sometimes if the bikes been sitting for a while the gas and oil start to seperate. also start your bike at least every 2 weeks or so and just run it for 5-10 min. minimium. after sitting its not uncommon for a bike to smoke a little

QUESTION:
having trouble cranking yz250?
i have a 2002 yz250 two stroke that i am having trouble with... i just replaced the reeds(boyesen) i am getting fire and i have good compression and am getting fuel... now hear comes the tricky part i can push it down the road and drop it in first gear and it will crank every time but when i try to kick start the bike it will not crank.... please help
okay thank everyone of you for the help i am going to try the spark plug.... and one more thing i forgot to mention i just had the carburator rebuilt at a local motorcycle shop.... they treplaced all the jets and soaked it in some solution for so many hours, so i know it is not a carburator problem... i will let you know the outcome of the spark plug and thank you again

• ANSWER:
  Clean your air filter, buy a new spark plug and get some fresh major refinery fuel.

  Since you can push start the bike, it means that it is something small that is causing the problem.

  A dirty air filter or an air filter that has been over oiled will make a bike hard to start.

  If your filter was dirty, pull your carb and clean it. Spray out the jets and the jet ports.

  A spark plug will sometimes spark when not under compression. Get a new plug and put it in the bike. Spark plugs do go bad and a new plug is only .00.

  If you are running Joe's gas stop fuel, there is no telling what you have in your pre-mix. I only purchase fuel from BP, Shell or Sonoco. Poor fuel can cause a bike to be difficult to start.

  I have owned several Yamaha 2-strokes in the past and all of them were hard starters. I found that if I opened the throttle 1/8th of a turn when kicking, they would usually fire up within 5 kicks. Most 2-strokes can be kick started with the throttle closed, but I have never had that happen with any of the Yamaha's I worked on or rode.

QUESTION:
How to assemble a 2001 YZ250 dirtbike that has been taken apart except for the engine.?
I bought a 2001 YZ250 that has been completely disassembled with the exception of the engine and forks. I am wondering how hard this will be if even possible to put back together. I ordered the Haynes manual and am wondering if this will guide me step by step in putting it back together? Nothing is labeled that was taken apart and the bolts/nuts are in ziploc bags. Please help with any information you have. I have no mechanical experience and this is my first dirbike. I am hoping I can do it so this is not a waste of money on my part. Thanks in advance.

  it will take some doing, but it can be done ... just take your time and have a lot of patiences. work very closely with the Haynes manual, it should list parts sizes with photos of the major components.

  I have found it beneficial to have a friend come help that might have some experience with bikes and between the two of you hopefully can figure out where all the nuts, bolts, screws, etc. fit back together...

  like a big mechanical jigsaw puzzle.

  if you get really frustrated, take a break for a little while... then your curiosity will peak again ... then go back to it.

  if you get completely lost, find a local who does all his own maintenance / repairs, offer them a meal & drinks (most will work for beer... LOL) to come help guide you.

  there are alot of guys more than willing to help (not do it all themself) teach newer to the sport learn how to do things of this nature. I have help numerous people and had numerous other people help me over the past 45 years ...

I am so confused what to get so i want some others opinions on what i should choose. I am currently riding a cr80 mine , a crf230 my moms and a xr650 my dads.I ride a lot of wide open trails with a lot of woops where the 230 is horrible at ,the xr650 is hard on the big woops and the 80 is just to slow. I also ride really hard rocky steep trails where in some parts you need to kind of drag the bike up .That is where the 650 is imposable for me to ride. lastly i am going to start racing U.S.D.R and go to the tracks more often but not race just to have fun.   First file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They might be able to get your money back for the bike. Other than that find out if the Ebay sellers will in fact take them back or sell them yourself on Ebay. Regardless whether you keep the bike or not. File a complaint against the company.

1998 yz 250 shocks ...?
i have a 1998 yz250. the front fork shocks get stuck up and get stuck when fully depressed. do i need a nitrogen recharge or could i adjust the screws that are at the top of the forks.... one direction is hard and the other is soft and in the shock resistance... im also looking for used plastics and other parts .... any good sites u know???

  New gas or adjustment won't help your slider bushings ar worn out you neednew bushings.

QUESTION:
Is it bad to run a dirtbike if the clutch basket is missing a flap?
I don't do any racing. It got busted by the mechanic who is fixing it. The mechanic happens to be a friend. It didn't come off easily, so the rest of the basket is fine. Is there a risk of serious damage if it breaks down further while being ridden? I have talked to a few people about it and there is some discrepancy in their answers. Most said that it isn't a big deal. The shops that I talked to said that it could be a big deal. (I suspect that they might just be trying to sell me an expensive part.)

The bike is a '93 Yamaha YZ250.

  it won't break right away, but it will damage the clutch plates and cause premature failure. get a proper mechanic next time. it sounds like your friend is what we call a back alley or shade tree mechanic. get it fixed.

r1 damaged engine- do i sell as a whole bike, or for parts?
basically i had chain snapped on me, while i was riding my 1999 yamaha R1. people telling me that i was lucky that i walked away- i don't feel that way because upon bringing motorcycle home i discovered that it made a hole in the tail of the bike and also in the aluminum casing of the motor.
what is the best way to sell this bike as a whole or by parts?
and can i sell the engine with the whole (less than half of a penny) where the front sprocket is.

  Well what I would do is measure-measure the outer diameter of the existing triple tree stem, as well as the length of it. Then take an overall measurement of the length and width of the forks in the tree you want to put on your machine. If they match up, wallah.

  If not-then perhaps you could just buy different fork springs and change the fork oil to get the suspension you are seeking.

Okay, my friend has a Yamaha R1 that he just crashed. It has a few scraps and such.

I have some Reducer and Hardener from previously painting my car.
My question is...with regard to the plastic motorbike parts and the metal bike gas tank, which option would be best that will produce a good job and cheap.

SInce these plastic bike parts are flexible, what do you recommend as a Primer or Flexing Agent?

Knowing that most automotive paints are Urethane based which is somewhat flexible already.

QUESTION:
Why are Ducati bikes so expensive?
The Ducati bikes seem so expensive, especially considering how good the Japanese are at making motorcycles. I was just wondering why their price is so pricey? Is it because of the parts or is it simply because you are paying for the name? What is the incentive of buying a Ducati 1098 over a Yamaha R1 or Honda CBR1000RR? I'm not hating on the Ducati bikes, just trying to understand the price difference.

  I like Ducati too but you are correct; they are less powerful, less reliable, more maintenance frankly just out classed by the jap bikes.

  The parts are more expensive and hard to get and the maintenance on a Ducati is about ridiculous because of their design.

  Ducati dresses the bikes up with a few extra like levers and upgraded brakes but that is just dress up. Ya the upgraded components are better but it is not enough to justify the price.
  KTM does this too.

  I think the prices are higher for a few reasons
  1) They still sell very well overseas
  2) They are Italian which means they are expensive to build
  3) They are innovative in the looks...they look cool.

  Anyone who races knows that you don't race a Ducati to win and you definitely don't race a ducati if you don't have money to burn. One crash can cost 000 to replace the carbon fiber fairing. My friend learned this the hard way.

  He now keeps the Ducati away from the track. I think he keeps it in the house so it doesn't get hurt again. LOL

  I like ducati in that they are they only one who has given the japs a challenge on the track and they did it with a V-twin.
  i hope they don't do down the Harley path and just make V-twins forever because the V-twin is old school and falling behind every day. Even in World Superbike the rules are changed each year to help Ducati stay on top. They are allwed bigger engines and other mods the inlines are not allowed.

What is the correct name of the part I need to buy, and where is the best place to buy the bolts and screws to install it? Would it make more sense to buy a whole kit of fairings? I 'm not sure if these are called fairings.

  As the Polar bear man says, its a fairing lower.
  You are going to have trouble with this as even if Yamaha could sell you a new one from a 8yo bike, it would be horrendously expensive. A bike wreckers won't be much help as 99% of bikes that end up there have been crashed, and guess what gets smashed first? Yep, the fairing.
  If the damage was minimal, plastic welding can be used but I think yours has too much damage for that option.
  About your best chance is to find an R6 forum on the net and ask other owners if they have any old fairings laying about. You never know what might turn up.

  Might be time to consider changing tack and go down the streetfighter route. Ditch the fairing completely

The step-by-step instructions that came with the parts don't tell you how to initially get the old parts off, I would like to know how to take off the fairings properly with out screwing something up and removing old turn signals.   This bike is going to be stupidly quick in a very short straight line before it gets in a speed wobble and then looses it big time.

  Yes you can lower the front end by feeding the fork stantions through the yokes and allowing them to protrude above the yokes < but do not go more than 30mm or else the bike will have the steering geometry so off from stable that it will induce a tank slapper of a front wheel wobble on slowing down.
  Dog bones in the rear likage will lower the rear end but you will not notice a reasonable drop BUT WHY 2" you do not need to go that far.
  This will prevent the bike from handling in the corners or from even being able to cut a clean curve
  You are turning it into an unstable straight line machine
  PLEASE DON'T DO THIS MODIFICATION

  You have great taste in sport bikes.

  ALL the 600cc racer replicas are fast, great looking and handle well. However, the classic solution to your problem is the Kawasaki Ninja 250. It's light. You can get a shorter seat if you need one. The bike handles--literally--as well as any 600, but the acceleration is not so brutal that you'll have a heart attack or wheelie yourself into a tree the first time you twist the throttle.   Changing your gearing helps but not enough. 1st... focus on the fuel and exhaust. Full system exhaust and remap the fuel system. That alone should get the front end up. To assist after that. sprocket mods are nice. Just remember.... down one in the front is usually comparable to about up 3 in the rear. Down 1 in the front and up 1 or 2 in the rear should have you up on one wheel in a snap.

  08 & 09 frames are the same.The only way to be sure you're getting a clean frame with a title is from a dealer.Frames from a salvage yards are hard to get titles for and almost always have damage.Even if you get a frame from a wrecker that in good shape it will have a salvage title on it and make the bike worth less than bluebook.

  I've got a buell Firebolt with Perelli Diablo T tires and they are about 150 (back) and 120 (front). Since you have an r6 I would bet you have the same size tires 180 front 120 back. It really depends on how high performance of a tire you want, though. They can be as cheap as 100 or as much as 300+ for the rear. I would go with perelli's they have great grip and wear and they aren't really that pricey. Mounted and balanced you'll probably spend at least 0

lowering motorcycle 3 inches?
i lowered my 2006 yamaha R6 3 inches with a link at the dealer, i scrape my bottom fairings from time to time, when i carry passengers and ride. am i scraping anything else? should i do any other adjustments to any other parts after getting it lowered?

  ok, dropping the back end 3 inch's is quite drastic, but in doing so, now you need to compensate this by altering your suspension front and back, up rate your shocks rear dampening, also your spring height needs stiffening, or get a new one off shock made, maxton are excellent as they are designed and made to riders spec, front forks, will require lowering and up rating, again maxton can do this to your spec, without major surgery your lower fairings will have to suffer, or if you wanted to go that extra mile, have one off fairings made to increase ground clearance when cornering solo or two up, choice is yours really, but remember, when you start altering motorcycle heights your original stability settings go out the window, you obviously needed the very low ride height, so it's going to be a bit of a headache for you for a while, while you get your set up right, but it will all work out in the end. good luck.

  Change oil
  Drain gas and replace with new gas
  If it's water cooled, i would seriously consider a flush and replace with new radiator fluid.
  If chain driven, check for any rust, clean off and if there is significant pitting, replace. If not, lube with chain lube.

  Check the tires - inflate to correct pressure, any cracks in the side wall? If you see any, replace.

  You need to strip more, gather all the singles you can and put a large down payment. Yamaha was once the easiest bike credit grantor but with the economy bad they've tightened up some. I think 00 down might get you done. Talk to your audience and prompt them to cough up the 5s and 10s. Ones are so passe. This is 2010 !!

i have a 99 yamaha r6 and i'm not sure whats wrong with it. the battery won't keep a charge, i bought a new battery but it still died soon after and now i have to charge it all the time, i heard it could be the stator or the rectifier module but i don't know much about the electrical systems on these so I don't want to buy the wrong part.

  Buy a service manual for your bike. Clymer or Haynes manuals are cheaper than the Yamaha Factory manual, and just as good. It will show you how to test the stator and the rectifier. You will also need an electrical (volt/ohm) meter to perform this test. Then you will know which component to replace.
  If I were a betting man, i would say it's the stator that is at fault.

  The Honda CBR600RR is seriously everywhere! It is mass produced, however, it is extremely easy to find replacement parts. You can even find them in junkyards!

  If you want additional parts to enhance the bike, you can also get better deals on it online. You can also cross parts with the CBR... parts that weren't necessarily made for the Honda will fit the Honda.... its a great feature

  When you want to trade up or get a cruiser after the Honda, it holds its value the best too for resale.

i was involved in a motorcycle accident. other insurance at fault. need help with repair rights?
I bought a 2008 yamaha r6 sport bike. 2 days later and only 68 miles on my bike i get tboned. other guys insurance claimed liability. now im wondering what my rights are as to fixing my bike? a local bike shop told me i could replace any parts that were damanged. e.g. if my gas tank is scratched up then i had the option to replacing it.. i was wondering if this is true?
basically im going to do the repairs myself. i own a body shop. but as far as bikes are concerned im not sure if its different than cars. i hear in texas me as the owner im able to get any piece replaced if it has been scratched or damaged.

  Bottom line: it's your bike and only YOU will make the decision as to how the vehicle will be repaired. All the insurance company is responsible for is to reimburse you for the cost of the damages (unless repair costs exceed the value -- then the state will declare it a total loss). Im looking to buy a 2005 yamaha r6, here is what i know about the bike: it has 24k miles on it, the guy says he has maintained it properly at the local dealer, he said hes gonna try to find the maintenance records but if he doesnt have the hard copies he said he can call the dealer and see if he can get invoices. Hes askin 3800 i offered 32-3300 but he said he cant go lower than 3500. The bike has a clean title, and from pictures it look really clean none or hardly and scratches or scuffs. As being my first bike purchase im a little nervous to commit even though i love the bike. I dont want to buy it and then have problems with it around the corner. I just got my license and am interested in buying my first bike. I took the Motorcycle Safety Coarse and understand that the most important part to a bike is how i "feel" for it when i ride on it, but i havnt had time to go to dealers to look at bikes at the moment.

The question that i am strugglin to answer is whether to buy a new bike or a used bike?
I am worried about buying a used bike becz i wont be able to knw what to look for to consider if the bike is in top conditions. Im also afraid to "drop" the bike in the beginning stages of riding, that is y i am not so sure whether a new bike is better than a used one.

I heard from people that a 600CC bike (such as Honda CBR600RR, Suzuiki GSX-R600, Yamaha YZF-R6,Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) is too strong for a beginner like me, but others say that their first bike was a 600CC and it worked fine.

Please give me suggestions to what made and model of bikes i should be investing my time in!

  You are right to be concerned that you might be rough on your first bike. You might drop it a few times before you get used to it, and you will probably also abuse the clutch. If you get an 'old beater', maybe 10 years old, with not too many miles on it, you can sell the bike after 6 months or a year for about what you paid for it, and also then also you'll have a better idea of what you want.

  There are plenty of web pages on how to buy a used bike. If you have a friend who's been riding a long time you could bring him along to check out the bike before you buy it. These days bikes are all pretty dependable, so unless it has high miles or looks trashed it's probably pretty good.

  600cc is plenty for a first bike. This is a 'small' bike, less than optimal in comfort for loooong rides, like 500 mi. days, or if you do a lot of two-up riding, but it would have plenty of power for the freeway and plenty enough to be fun.

  But the bikes you mention, CBR600, GSX-R and R6 are very serious sportbikes, very special-purpose, very high-strung like a thoroughbred horse. For a first bike I think you'd be better to pick something a little more general-purpose and versatile like a Honda 599 (aka 'Hornet) or SV-650 or Bandit. Those bikes are 'sporty', they handle well and are a blast to ride, but not quite so serious and specialized.

  If you really -have- to have the thoroughbred sport bike, after a few months of riding you'll be better equipped to handle it. But for a newbie I think it would be like like learning to drive in a Formula One racer!

I am 19 and have wanted a bike for a long time. I just recently paid off my car and go to college with a part?
time job. So i dont have the money to spend on a 250 motorcycle and work my way up. I love the look of a yamaha r6 but with no bike expirience talking to my friends who say 600s of thos kinds of bikes are good but then on the internet forums some people say they are too big and you need to work your way up with 250s and some say they are too big. so i was wondering if i would buy a 110cc Super Pocket Rocket on craigslist (those are the pocket rockets that go 70 mph) I am 5ft 10in and weigh 150 and i am just wondering if i buy one of those 110 cc pocket rockets and then ride it for this year and next spring if during the summer i would be ready for a 600 cc i am wanting USED honda cbr600 or yamaha r6. so in a nut shell if i buy a 110 cc super pocket bike with the 4 speed manual tranny with hand clutch and ride that for a year would i be ready for an older and used honda cbr600 or yamaha r6.

  The best way to learn is on a smaller bike, like a 250. If you take a safety class such as S.T.A.R. or something similar they are going to have you on a 250 or smaller. The skills you learn on a small bike will transfer to a larger one, but make sure you are ready for the upgrade. you are a lot more likely to wreck in your first few years of riding. In more than half of accidents involving motorcycle riders the rider has less than 5 months experience on the bike and less than 3 years total experience.

  My recommendation to you is to test out as many bikes as you can so you can get a feel for power, handling, comfort, exe. "Smaller, used bikes have and retain good resale value. This is because other sane people will want them as learner bikes. You’ll probably be able to sell a used learner bike for as much as you paid for it. If you can't afford to upgrade in a year or two, then you definitely can't afford to wreck the bike your dreaming about. At the very least, most new riders drop bikes going under 20MPH, when the bike is at its most unstable period. If you drop your brand new bike while your learning (and you will), you've just broken a directional, perhaps a brake or clutch lever, cracked / scrapped the fairings (0.00 each to replace), messed-up the engine casing, messed-up the bar ends, etc. It's better and cheaper to drop a used bike that you don’t care about than one you just spent ,500 on. Fortunately, most of these types of accidents do not result in serious physical injury. It’s usually just a big dent in your pride." A bike that I might recommend is the Kawasaki Ninja, it is a great bike that is always in demand by new riders. For a used 2006 ninja 250 you are looking at about 00.00 private, but you can get similar bikes for less just check craigslist.

  To sum it up learning on a smaller bike is going to save you money and pain, many people drop their first bike a couple of times. your size has little to do with what size of bike you choose, it's all about your abilities and skill. DON'T waste your time with a pocket bike, they are not street legal and will NOT give you the skills you will need. TAKE an MSF or similar course before you even purchase a bike. Bike Parts Question for Yamaha R1?
I was requested to get some bike parts for a friend who lives out of country, and one of the things he requested was to get a ECU chip for a Yamaha R1 (2005).

The thing I've searched for it and most of the ECU chips are used, and he says that these will not work after it's already been used on one bike because he heard that from a friend. But is that true? And where could I get a new ECU chip in that case?

He also wants me to pick up some exhaust pipes for him, but what are some things to look for when I get exhaust pipes used from someone else? Please advise =/

  Another thing to think of is the extended swing arm and front tie down means the bike has been drag racing.

  That is incredibly hard on a motorcycle.

  If you are talking candy blue paint that isn't original, that usually means the bike has been down and repainted.

  On a good day, that bike is worth about ,000 less than he is asking, and you wouldn't be getting a "deal" unless it was under ,000.

  Look at the completed auctions on ebay to get an idea of what that bike would sell for on the open market.

  for a first bike the R1 is way too quick so you say that you know all the numbers then you know that the friggin bike makes as much hp as a neon and weighs way less it is a nice smooth bike but i can tell you this my track bike is a R6 and my street bike is a R1 why is that because racing belongs on the track and with the R1 it is very easy to slip a rear tire in a corner even the pros do it all the time you should start on the R6 you will think it is very fast and you don't need to be so easy on the gas for a first bike the R1 is just too much if you have done so much research on the R1 why don't you do some riding research and you will find out that the people who race bikes like the EX500 very rarely use the bike to its fullest so a R1 is just a waste of cash but what i say don't matter to you so just make sure your organ donor card is signed

2000 Yamaha R1 Electrical Problems HELLPP PLZZ?
i have a 2000 yamaha r1 with only 14k on it, It will not start unless i hook up the booster cables there is absolutely no power to it, battery is 1 year old. when I do get it started, all the lights flicker, and my rpm guages and everything just go wild, there is also a very noticable clicking in one of the relays, I changed the voltage regulator thinking it was that, didnt do anything. my bike will run as long as i dont turn it off, as soon as its off you cannot start it again without boosting. I attached a video to help show exactly what im talking about, at the end you can also see there is absolutely not a drop of power when i shut it off and try restarting, please if you know what part i need let me know. thanks

What is wrong with my Yamaha R1?
I wrecked my R1 about a month ago. It still ran however and I have rode it daily since the wreck. Today I bought a parts bike and put the fairings and gas tank from the parts bike on my previously wrecked bike. After hooking everything up I turned the bike on and it cranked no problem. I let it run for about 5 minutes and then cut it off to put the front brake on. Afterwards I went for a ride and about a mile down the road UT died and will no longer turn over, even with the choke on all the way. Everything electrical still works it just won't crank. What is my problem?

  You can but its involves welding a bracket to the frame which means if done incorrectly it will spoil the bike and will be crooked. Messing with chassis of the bike is always tricky.

QUESTION:
Seafoam cleaner for my 2005 Yamaha R1??
I read all over the place that this seafoam cleaner is good for cleaning just about every internal part of an engine. I recently added it a full tank of gas to clean out the fuel injectors. By the way, i only added about a quarter of the seafoam can (as directed) to a full tank on the R1 so i still have plenty left, can i added to consecutive full tanks of gas??

Anyway, the can also says i can added to my oil. But it doesnt specify if i should add it to a fresh oil change, one about to be changed, nothing? Im assuming to add it with a fresh oil change, am i wrong?

• ANSWER:
  I wouldn't use it in the oil at all. But if you must do it put it in before an oil change, drive it around a bit then change the oil. Motorcycle engines have different bearings than cars and are more susceptible to damage from having the oil washed off them by a solvent (which seafoam is).

  Don't take this wrong I'm a huge seafoam advocate and think it works miracles sometimes but I would only pour it in a crankcase as a last ditch effort.

  If you just want something to do with the rest of the can put it some kind of spray bottle and spritz it into your throttle bodys to help clean out the intake tract (again most likely not nessassary).

I have to replace my front forks on my Yamaha YZF600r Thundercat 02.2004.I know that some parts from Yamaha R6, R1 , FZR600 fit to my bike.What about my Front forks.According to wiki my front forks are :41 mm telescopic fork w/adj. preload, compression and rebound damping; 5.1 inch travel

So ,from what bike and year i can take front forks that will fit my bike without modification ( i am planing to buy second hand non-damaged ones ,because i can`t afford new ones )? It`s not a bad idea to recommend me a place to buy online replacement parts (although i will need a special tool to remove the front fork`s inner tubes).

  unless you have a considerable amount of engineering experience and the tools and alignment equipment to do this job you would be better getting a shop to do this as if you get it only slightly out of alignment your then likely to need a new bike complete.

QUESTION:
04 yamaha R1 clutch and motor tech help?
Just a quick question, I took apart the motor and breaking it down searching for a rattleing noise right. Got to the clutch plates. On the clutch basket it has like 5 bushings with springs in it, 2 of them are tightly in place and the other 3 rattle a little bit, is this normal? Second part, the original problem was when the engine was idle and in neutral clutch engaged you could hear a very bad rattle in it, put a stethascope to everything, but we didn't initally hear the noise in the clutch, we heard it on the opposite side of the motor right above the shift linkage, any thoughts?
Yeah our first thought was that shift fork 1 or 2 got bent so that's why we started breaking down the whole motor. Then we stopped a sec and noticed 3 of the bushings in the clutch were making the same noise but the weird part was that we didn't hear the noise on that side of the bike initially
It was the 5 bushings on the inner sprocket piece of the clutch basket. Question resolved. We got another R1 and took the clutch apart and it does the same thing.

  Are you talking about the 5 outer bolts with the springs or the springs on the outer clutch basket?If those are the ones you are talking about,they are for preventing wheel hop when you downshift hard.If those are rattling I would replace them I,they could become brittle after all that rattling and break apart.And after reading your add- on it all makes sense.

Why are Ducati bikes so expensive?
The Ducati bikes seem so expensive, especially considering how good the Japanese are at making motorcycles. I was just wondering why their price is so pricey? Is it because of the parts or is it simply because you are paying for the name? What is the incentive of buying a Ducati 1098 over a Yamaha R1 or Honda CBR1000RR? I'm not hating on the Ducati bikes, just trying to understand the price difference.

  I like Ducati too but you are correct; they are less powerful, less reliable, more maintenance frankly just out classed by the jap bikes.

  The parts are more expensive and hard to get and the maintenance on a Ducati is about ridiculous because of their design.

  Ducati dresses the bikes up with a few extra like levers and upgraded brakes but that is just dress up. Ya the upgraded components are better but it is not enough to justify the price.
  KTM does this too.

  I think the prices are higher for a few reasons
  1) They still sell very well overseas
  2) They are Italian which means they are expensive to build
  3) They are innovative in the looks...they look cool.

  Anyone who races knows that you don't race a Ducati to win and you definitely don't race a ducati if you don't have money to burn. One crash can cost 000 to replace the carbon fiber fairing. My friend learned this the hard way.

  He now keeps the Ducati away from the track. I think he keeps it in the house so it doesn't get hurt again. LOL

  I like ducati in that they are they only one who has given the japs a challenge on the track and they did it with a V-twin.
  i hope they don't do down the Harley path and just make V-twins forever because the V-twin is old school and falling behind every day. Even in World Superbike the rules are changed each year to help Ducati stay on top. They are allwed bigger engines and other mods the inlines are not allowed.

  Why would you want to "Enter Change" into a motorcycle? What do you think it is-a bank of some sort?

  Oh I suppose you meant INTERchange?

  Well what I would do is measure-measure the outer diameter of the existing triple tree stem, as well as the length of it. Then take an overall measurement of the length and width of the forks in the tree you want to put on your machine. If they match up, wallah.

  If not-then perhaps you could just buy different fork springs and change the fork oil to get the suspension you are seeking.

Are fender eliminators legal in NH?
I can't find the answer to this question anywhere! I am interested in a certain bike (2006 Yamaha YZF-R1). It has a fender eliminator without signal lights. Is it legal to not have rear signals or what's the deal with this? If it will not pass inspection i will demand they include the parts and installation of the stock or another aftermarket plate bracket with signals upon purchase without additional fees.

• ANSWER:
  I live in Maine. Here you need rear signals and a plate light in the rear. The fender eliminator should be o.k. as long as the plate is clearly visible. You definitely need turn signals. I have a fender eliminator on my r6 but I have an tail light integrator and a plate light. I have had no problems yet. Without turn signals the bike won't pass inspection. Make sure it has mirrors front signals and marker lights. Good luck.

Which Sport Bike Would You Recommend?
I've been riding for almost a year, on my dad's Honda Shadow (VLX Deluxe, 600) and I'm seriously considering getting a bike of my own. I've taken the MSF course and passed flawlessly, and the nine-month holding period for my learner's permit ends in March. I really enjoy riding, and one of the most appealing parts of a bike is the acceleration. Not the top speed, but the sound and the rush of getting the bike up to speed, so I was thinking, instead of a cruiser, like the Shadow, I'd like a sport bike. I can afford a Hayabusa, Yamaha R1, or something along those lines. I'm wondering what those bikes would do to insurance, would I be ready for them, would they be worth it, and which sport bike would you recommend, given my situation? It doesn't have to be a Hayabusa or an R1, just any sport bike. Thanks for your input, and please refrain from any ignorant or childish answers.
Oh, one more thing, if any of you know the gas mileage for any of the bikes you suggest, I'd like to have that info also. Thanks again.

  I have a 01 R1 and it's my first bike, so I wouldn't listen to anyone saying it's to big for a first bike and you had more experience when I started(it's all in the wrist). I live in Jersey where insurance is crazy and I pay a month which I don't think is bad. I think I get around 35 mpg, depends on how I ride.. I didn't want a 600 because I would get sick of it to quick. I'd look at a r1 or cbr 1000. I like the gsxr's, but I hear they have a lot of mechanical problems. If you got the money go for a MV Agusta or Ducati... Their pricey though... Good luck on your search....

What to do when Painting a Motorcycle?
Okay, my friend has a Yamaha R1 that he just crashed. It has a few scraps and such.

He has asked me to repaint it for him. He wants a Flat or Satin black paint job. I took on the job because Flat or Satin is quite easy to do.

So, no I am a little stuck with decisions, I have a budget of 0 to 0 max.

1. Rattle Can...SEM- Flat black ( a can x 6 cans) bucks with tax

2. Rattle Can...Krylon Fusion/or flat - .25 a can x 6 = ish.

3. Paint Gun...PPG (Nason) Single Stage (2 quarts) ish.

I have some Reducer and Hardener from previously painting my car.
My question is...with regard to the plastic motorbike parts and the metal bike gas tank, which option would be best that will produce a good job and cheap.

SInce these plastic bike parts are flexible, what do you recommend as a Primer or Flexing Agent?

Knowing that most automotive paints are Urethane based which is somewhat flexible already.

im 17 and i now have the money to buy a car, but i don't want to buy a car, for one, gas is really expensive, i don't want to haul family around ( or anyone else for that matter). so, instead, ive decided i want to buy a nice street bike. here are some Models im interested in buying, a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R1, a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R, a 2007 suzuki SV650SF ABS, a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R750, or a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX14. im just not sure which one to buy, im not looking to buy a really expensive bike that looks cool (although it does seem to be that way, considering the bikes i have just listened) i just don't want a car. i also need to know, will it be expensive to own one of these bikes? as in, parts, gas, etc..? and do you think it would just be smarter to buy a car? thanks for the help.!

• ANSWER:
  Well, since you're a girl, I want to mention first that you want to be able to sit on a bike with both feet flat on the ground. This can limit the range of choices somewhat for the 'inseam challenged'. 8^) OTOH ladies make better bikers, especially at your age, because they are more level-headed and they don't suffer from 'testosterone poisoning'.

  The bikes you mention are in several distinct categories. Some are definitely not for beginners. Some are hot sportbikes, some are 'sporty' standards, i.e. general purpose but with sporty styling.

  First of all, I wouldn't recommend a dedicated single-purpose sportbike. These include the Ninja ZX, GSX-R, CBR, and R6 or R1. They are very wonderful machines for what they are but they are designed for a single purpose--speed and handling--so they aren't as good for 'general purpose' use. They are not easy to ride because they have high-performance engines with narrow powerbands, so you have to keep them revved up towards the redline to get the power out of them, and they have very sensitive steering geometry, so they are not forgiving for beginners. You should see them as something to work up to. The Ninja ZX14 is a real rocketship, like 0-60 in less than 2 seconds and a top speed of 170 or so. Plus it's really heavy and hard to manage.

  Then in the more general-purpose category. The regular Ninja, Suzuki SV 650, etc. It's unfortunate that Kawasaki uses the name 'Ninja' for standard bikes and also its hot sportbike. The Ninja ZX is the sportbike, but the 500 or 650 are wonderful general-purpose bikes. The 250 is actually designed as a 'trainer' and it is ideal, except that it can't go on the highway. If you see yourself dong long rides at over 50 mph (like commuting 10 miles on the freeway) you need at least 500cc and 650 would be better. 650cc is bigger/heaver than a 250, but not that much. You could handle it. (Strangely, Kawasaki calls them the 250r, 500r and 650r--the r stands for 'race', which they definitely are not!)

  You can get a good used motorcycle for maybe 00-3000. You want to start on something used, because you're likely to be hard on your first bike and it would be a shame to screw up a shiny new motorcycle.

  Is it better than a car? I would say no. Now I have two motorcycles and I consider them my primary mode of transportation. Here in California I can ride them year round. I do own a car, and I use it whenever it rains, or when I have to carry something big. (And I could ride in the rain, I just don't like to have to hassle with the rainsuit and booties and glove-covers.)

  Riding a bike doesn't really save you that much money. You get 40-45 mpg, more on a smaller bike, but there are cars these days that do in the mid 30s. Tires on a motorcycle only last 10,000 miles because the rubber is softer to grip the road better. And you have to replace chain and sprockets every 10-20k miles (if the bike has chain drive) and that's another 0 or so. I ride for fun (actually 'fun' is kind of a weak word for it), and for convenience, especially in parking, not for economy.

  If you get a good used bike it's not expensive to maintain. You need the occasional tuneup but even that is simple in these days of electronic ignition, fuel injection, etc. My two bikes are older (1993 and 1978) and I figure maybe 00/yr each, including tires, maintenance, insurance, registration, everything except maybe gas. More than a new car, but less than a car of comparable age.

I would like to restring a righty Yamaha acoustic guitar to a lefty. Any advice on finding the right nut?
I can turn it upside down and swap the strings, but the nut has a slant to one side and I don't think I can simply "flip" it. My online research did not yield any Yamaha specific parts. I have never ordered from them but they are all active as of today. Your other option would be to take the guitar to a luthier and have the luthier set up the guitar properly. Remember that in addition to the neck nut, the saddle has to be modified as well. Also, the strings should be checked for intonation. If the guitar has been played much, you might also want to get the frets checked. Where the frets would not be an issue as long as the guitar was set up the same way, there may be some buzz or even a sharp spot where a string might get nipped if the action was reversed. Hope this helps.

  For air intake, get the universal series of air filters from K&N. Just take a measuring tape and measure the diameter of your intake manifold, go to K&N website and order a filter of the same diameter.
  I think the 1060 and 1100 series would suit you. Better verify. As for the exhaust, don't buy it online. It might actually reduce the performance. So exhaust chambers are tricky business. Better to stick with the stock one. If not, just go to a local tuner who is reputed and has done such jobs. It requires an expert. Other performance parts you can add is a bigger jet for the carb and try different sprockets. Ultimately, there is no list that can suit a particular vehicle, you have to do it using trial and error.

  First visit sites like www.alibaba.com or do a google search for your market with "OEM manufacturer" after it. For example

  A bearing is a steel roller bearing. A bushing is usually a hard plastic busing found in the a-frames of dirt bikes and ATVs. Usually they come in a kit with a new pin and washers. I'm sure it does need new bushings as they wear out often. Best bet is to buy the rebushing kit at your local Yamaha distributor. It sounds like you're not sure of what you need. You can save money on-line but need to know exactly what you need.

2 questions about a 1974 Yamaha DT 125?
I just bought a 1974 Yamaha DT 125 last night and have 2 quick questions. Does anyone know of a good online parts source? I found one place in the UK, I live in the USA and don't want to buy parts overseas if I can help it.

Second, the bike is a 2 stroke with the oil tank under the seat and the gas tank in the normal location. Is there a good way to insure the oil tank is metering out the proper amount of oil? It's smoking a lot and spitting black liquid out of the exhaust, so I know it's getting oil at least, but I would like to be able to check it and be sure it's getting the proper amount. I've owned 2 strokes before but never this old, it seems a little rich on the oil but maybe that is normal for the older bikes? Thanks for the help.
The bike has 7,700 miles on it so the oil pump shouldn't be worn out. I'm thinking about just doing away with the oil tank and run premix, but I would like to fuel up at a gas station instead of heading home for the gas can.

  A worn out top end (cylinder, piston & rings) won't produce enough compression to fully burn the oil in the fuel mixture.
  The oil will accumulate in the pipe and eventually drip out.
  Adjust the oil pump - it's cable operated and the cable is adjustable.
  Your service manual will explain the procedure.
  Check the cylinder compression with a compression gauge.
  Clean the excess oil out of the pipe.

  Knowing WHAT parts you're looking for would be helpful. In general, parts fall into a couple of categories. There are some parts that are "specific" to your model...like the pick-guard for instance. You'll need to get an exact replacement through Yamaha,,,or find used parts on eBay.

Right Windshield Yamaha V-Star?
I just bought a Yamaha V-star 1100. This is my first bike and I love it at 40mph. But when I get up to 55 its WAY too much wind. So, the obvious solution is a windshield. Looking at windshields online I found they come in different heights. Are there any rules for how high a windshield should be? Why go shorter versus going taller? Also, any good websites for parts?

  Ok, I'm gonna give you the best advice you can get on this subject.
  1) YOU DONT want to be looking through the windshield under normal riding positions. It will distort vision AND when it rains etc it will become a problem.
  2) A shorter windshield still deflects wind and rain a few inches above it.
  3) To select the right windshield, go to yamaha dealer and sit on a 1100 silverado (Same bike but has windshield already) Then sit on it like you were riding, Your normal line of site looking ahead should be a couple inches above the windshield.

  Now these come in 2 positions so the dealer can tell you how tall the one is on the silverado, You can then decide if you need smaller or taller. Buy the one that at its tallest is what you think you need as you can always drop it down 1 click (It has 2 positions apx 1 to 1.5" diff in height"

I just purchased a Yamaha Receiver from an “NON- Yamaha's Authorized Dealer” and saved almost 0.00. The online retailer tried to sell me an extended warranty and I said no. Now I’m wondering how many people wish they should have bought that warranty or buy full price from an authorized dealer. The way I see it is a receiver has no moving parts and will either work or not. I have a 2 week return policy from the retailer.

  The product you purchased will never be factory serviced. depending on the product Yamaha has up to a 10 year warranty. I have found that except new types of technology or higher ticket items, extended warranties are a frivolous expense. but one that should be considered. I once bought a receiver that had a 5 year warranty, for more I could make it 15 years. Not a dumb choice. Now if the receiver was buck I would not have done it.

  Any warranty that place offers will not have access to Yamaha parts or service bulletins, these could include critical software fixes too.

  Authorized retailers are a good thing, so in the future support them.

  In most EU countries the voltage is 220 -240 Volts at 50Hertz so with the correct adaptor The keyboard should work

  In my opinion, an armstromg or gemeinhardt flute is much better than a yamaha. if you are looking to but it online go with an authorized dealer and not off of ebay. I had a problem with buying instruments on ebay and will never do it again. as for the type of screws, it really does not matter as long as it holds the flute together. the more important features are the B foot, open hole and silver plating. if you end up buying it at a music store you will probably end up paying more than you would if you bought it online. what I did was test 5 different flutes in the store and bought the one I liked online for 0 cheaper.

My son, riding a 2010 yamaha scooter wasn't paying attention coming over a small hill and came in contact with the rear of a 1994 Lincoln Towncar at roughly 20 mph. Contact was the left rear and left a dent in the trunk, broke the left rear tail lens and a dent in the rear left fender. The scooter's damage: 2 broken mirrors and broken instrument panel. It was still running, ridable and largely intact. The scooter was actually just purchased the previous day and wasn't insured nor was it required to be. Knowing this, I expected to pay for the damages out of pocket which I did research on the cost of a new hood, tail lenses and fender (or repair to the existing fender). Keep in mind, we're talking about a fender bender...both vehicles can be driven away from the scene. I came up with around 00 including reasonable labor costs for damages on the car by calling dealerships and researching parts online. And then I added a reasonable cost for a rental car for a week adding an additional 0 bring the total to 00. The traffic officer made and estimate of about 00 on the incident report and my estimate is at the low end as I can't possibly account for everything.

At this point, I'm expecting a letter from the insurance company with the amount at which time I would pay off as much as I could in a lump sum and possibly setup a payment plan for the rest. Instead, I get a letter from a lawyer representing as "surogee" State Farm demanding I send payment of 00+ or contact them to make payment arrangements. Since that amount came as a complete shock, I contact the lawyer right away and requested information to substantiate the 00+ claim. i.e. photos, estimates, insurance adjusters report, actual receipts, etc. The lawyer called me back the next day and said he'd get it out in the mail to me. 5 weeks later, I had received nothing. So I faxed the same lawyer requesting the same information again so that I at least had a record of contacting him aside from the phone calls. He calls back the same day stating, I'm sure I sent the information but I'll get that out to you right away. 5 days later, he files the law suit. I must also add, the owner of the vehicle is joined in the suit with State Farm. I then took the suit to my lawyer who will represent me in the case.

To date: I've seen no evidence to substantiate what I believe to be an excessive claim and as you can probably determine, the lawyer representing state farm had no intentions of providing anything I had requested even though evidence is the basis for any claim. If the claim is legit, what's the problem with providing the proof. You can't just take a piece of paper or letter into court and say Mr. Doe owes me 00 for damages without evidence of Actual damages. Am I missing something here?

  So you were not required by law to have insurance on the scooter. However, it would have been a good idea, not just to cover property damage but any injuries that may have resulted from an accident. With insurance, you simply turn the claim over to the insurance company and let them handle it.

  For this to be a ligit suit, they had to have served legal notice on you. Since they probably know where you live, that should have been done at your home. If they did not serve papers on you, then I would really question if they did actually file a suit or they are trying to bluff you. Your lawyer should be on top of that.

  Secondly, if a suit was actually filed, there is a period called discovery where each side has to share what they have with the other side. That is done to make one side or the other decide they can not win and pay up. If they are refusing to provide the documentation to your lawyer, then he should move for summary dismissal of the case since they have failed to provide the evidence to justify their claims. If at that time they do not present the evidence, the judge will kick the case out.

  Third, you can also move for mediation. If they refuse it, that is a big clue that they know they are asking for way too much. If they accept it, then a mediator is picked, each side gives their evidence and it is all up to him. YOUR problem is you did a guestimate of the damages. You should have insisted the car be taken down to a claims adjuster right away so that both you and the owner could have been present at the time the adjuster made his determination of damages. They could have taken the car to the four most expensive body shops in town and since they will have estimates based upon actual inspection of the damages, your guestimate will not stand up.

  I think you should offer to settle for 00. If they accept it, then it is all over and done. If they do not accept it, then you have to take your chances in court. In the meantime, GET INSURANCE ON THAT SCOOTER!!

how compatible are snowmobile trailing arms?
I bent my trailing arm on my 1999 yamaha vmax 600 sx the other day and it's cracked since then so i'm going to have to replace it. I don't feel like spending a whole lot to replace it and i've been looking a lot online and some are cheaper than others. My main question is can I use a straight arm that's not a yamaha part? or are other straight arms not compatible? i keep seeing kimpex arms but they don't say if they'd fit a yamaha sled or not.

  The best thing to do, is this... Measure your old trailing arm (You may want to measure the other one, to get a sure reading, since the other one is bent, and cracked). Once you have that information, note how yours is mounted, also, any other hardware, that is involved, as well. Maybe even make a diagram of the trailing arm. Then, take the information you have, and, get a hold of the Kimpex dealer, and tell them what you are looking for, and, they should be able to help you out. You can also check the local junk/scrap yards, to see if a sled like yours may be there, as well. If all else fails, you may have to buy a new one, weather you like it, or not. It may be expensive, though, at least, you'll know, for sure, that the trailing arm, from the Yamaha dealer will fit, without any trouble.

I bought a Brute Force last summer and I love it. But I wanted tro try and find some performance upgrades for it that I could put on it in the future but it seems that all the 4 wheeler parts stores only carry parts for the racing quads. I looked online and searched Google, and I also got a 500 page catalog from an ATV place and they didnt even have exhaust kits for my quad. They offer all kinds of things for the Yamaha 700FI's and others, but I seem to be stuck on finding upgrades for my ATV. QUESTION:
are some brands of dirt bikes / watercrafts cheaper to fix than others?
So I'm wondering, of all the main brands of dirt bikes, kawasaki, yamaha, honda, suzuki, etc. As well as watercrafts. Which has the cheapest OEM parts and is generally cheaper to fix, or are they all about the same?

The reason I ask is I own a 93 kawasaki kx 250 dirt bike, and also a 91 kawasaki jet ski. Just coincidence, not that I'm a big fan of kawasaki or anything. But I've ran into a problem a couple times where I need a little part and it turns out to be absolutely rediculously priced. For example my dirt bike, there is a little tiny exhaust valve (part #12005B), it can hardly even be considered a valve, more of just a tiny little flapper about 1 inch long, very small, not intricate, and even online they are going for over . The bike shop wants like for that tiny little metal scrap. A 99 cent toe nail clipper is much more intricately made and has twice as much metal.

Another example, on my jet ski, inside the carbeurator there was a little tiny piece of plastic, that is not very intricate at all and very small, you could probably hide it under a penny with room to spare. Just the cap off a 25 cent ball point pen probably uses 3 times as much plastic, and is much more intricate, yet they want almost for that little piece of black plastic.

There are many other examples of small little parts that cost rediculous prices. Is that just a kawasaki thing, or are all brands like that? Is there perhaps one brand where all the parts are much more reasonably priced? I can understand there is supply and demand, and stuff like that, but some of the tiny little parts are just rediculous.

  all major brands parts are very similar in price give or take a bit. this is not just a Kawasaki issue in the least. likewise, move over to a KTM and the parts make a noticeable jump in price... especially if you go thru a dealer on an OEM part. some parts can be ordered online thru places like bikebandit somewhat cheaper and if you buy several parts at a time, the cost of shipping will be covered... you just have to wait a bit longer to get those in your hands.

  so, not just an isolated case as they all can be quite expensive.

I'm 33 years old, bankrupt (chapter 7), my 49cc scooter is my only vehicle, I'm living w/ my parents, and I work a part-time minimum wage job 3 miles from home for money. I have mild cerebral palsy and epilepsy, just got approved yesterday for insurance at 0 per month, saw a doctor 3 days ago and got a neurology referal and some temporary meds (Dilantin and Flexiril). Neurologist appointment is Oct 5th.

I had some vacation time (unpaid) that I was taking next week and was going to look for a new (better paying) job. Now I can't do that because I wouldn't have a vehicle to take me back and forth. I opened a new checking and savings account a month ago and signed up for online banking (w/o bill pay) earlier this morning, but the medical lately left the balances low (reason why I got insurance). I thought that I was finally making some headway in my life.

Then, my scooters lights went out on me (nearly all of them), on my way home, an officer stopped me and told me that I cannot use the scooter anymore until I get the lights fixed. Cost of getting them fixed is hr for labor + parts (possible 3 - 4 hour job trying to find the problem (according to the scooter shop I purchased it from). The other shop, a yamaha store, said labor is 0 per hour. I just cannot afford to get it fixed now that my medical insurance is being taken out this next payday (done through autopay). I'm flat broke, nothing left in savings or checking right now. I can't ride a bicycle because my knees and ankles are screwed up due to the cerebral palsy. This was the last straw, it left me dead in the water. I have no more options left anymore.

I'm seriously at the end of my rope, I'm ready to quit my job, say to hell with the insurance, and the doctor, and the neurologist, and my scooter. I'm ready to drop out of society period and say F*CK IT ALL.

What do I do???

Seriously, at this point, suicide might not be such a horrible option anymore. I'm sick and tired of this god damned life. With gas prices skyrocketing like no tomorrow, I'm thinking about buying a 49cc/50cc moped scooter that I can use to commute to school (2 miles away) and grocery (5 miles away).

1. What brand(s) should I be looking into? I found a lot of "brand-less" moped scooters for under a 00, but I heard those are a no-go because of its difficult to find parts and services.

2. How can I make a moped faster? I read that in WA, a moped shouldn't exceed 30mph (even if it can go faster). Most of the mopeds that I found on Google has a max speed of 30 to 35mph. I figure it'd be better to have a bit more to spare, especially when going up a hill. Also, the speed limit around where I live is 35 or 40mph.

3. Where can I buy a moped in North Seattle, Washington? I read that it's better to buy in person instead of buying online.

4. How gas efficient are mopeds? Range? Which is the most gas efficient? The Yamaha scooters claim to be able to get over 100mpg...

• ANSWER:
  1. Stick with a brand that has a nearby dealer. Expect to spend about k for a 50cc scooter. I would look at Honda, Yamaha, or Vespa as my first choices.

  2. The very best way is to buy a bigger scooter. Most of the performance mods come from europe, where people are restricted from having more than 50cc's so they go to great lengths to sup up a 50cc scooter. For a mere 00, you can get a brand new Yamaha Vino125 that will blow the doors off any souped up 50cc scooter. It will require that you take the motorcycle safety class (3 days) and get a full motorcycle license, but it is well worth the effort. In additon to removing the 50cc restiction from your washington license, it will make you a much safer rider. The Vino 125 has a max speed of about 50mph and still gets about 100mpg.

  3. Rides, in Woodinville has Honda, Yamaha, and Aprilia scooters. They are all good. There is also a Vespa Dealer in Woodinville. Cycle Barn in Lynwood is a big shop, but I havn't been able to get as good a deal there.

  4. A 50cc scooter gets about 100mpg. Bigger scooters get a little less. My 250cc Honda reflex scooter gets 75mpg, and has a top speed of 75mph. It's fine on I-405.

  5. Any mods you make to a 50cc scooter will probably only make marginal improvements. By far your best option is to take the Pacific Motorcycle Safety class, and get a little bit bigger scooter.

  6. If you choose to modify a scooter, I'm sure the dealer can do it for you, but it will cost more than it's worth.

  7. Mopeds and motorcycles are the same in Washington, exept for the fact that you can operate a 50cc moped without a motorcycle endorsement. Both need to be titled, and regestered. Insurance is optional, but you would be crazy not to get it. scooters can be stolen easily. Insurance from progressive or Geico is very cheap.

  8. Modern mopeds almost allways use regular gas. If the moped has a 2-stroke engine, then it needs oil mixed in the gas. This is usually done with oil injection from a seperate reservior that you fill with special 2-stroke oil. In the old days, you mixed the oil in the gas tank when you filled it. I recommend you get a 4-stroke scooter and then you don't have to worry about it. Most newer ones are.

  9.Dry weight is without gas and oil in the bike. Once assembled and ready for riding, they weigh a little more.

leak between carbs and engine?
I recently bought a 1982 yamaha virago 750 and the gas lines are brand new and the carbs have been cleaned by a professional. the only problem is that it is not accelerating the previous owner said that a friend checked it and said that the short rubber tubes where the carbs are connected to the engine are leaking. I want to say that there called carb holders but i am not 100% sure because they look different from what i have found online and in shops, although on the bike it looks like some rubber hose attached with hose clamps. can any one show me a pic or diagram and give any suggestions or sell me the parts i need even if they are used but operational?
already did the wd40 and there were bubles. it will accellerate for a little while if you spray the tubes with starting fluid. I looked at the diagram and yes the 2nd to last owner tried a cheap fix and did not use the right part. insted he just clamped rubber hose to connect the carbs to the rest of the engine and that is what is leaking. i'm going to use the right part but it's and i can only find one place that carry's it here in lansing michigan, anybody know of a better or cheaper place? and i did check the local junk yards and couldn't find it.

What is the cheapest yet good quality acoustic-electric six-string guitar?
I'm a beginner guitarist. All the things I know are the first forms of A-G Maj. and Min. Chords, types of guitars, brands, parts of guitars, and the amount of strings they can have.The guitar has to be available in stores (no online purchases), and has to be one of the following brands under 0.00: Ibanez, BC Rich, Fender, Cascade, Stagg, ESP, Ovation, Gibson, or Yamaha. More preferably I would like an Ibanez or Fender. Remember, best answer gets 10 points. For those of you who don't know what an acoustic electric is, it's an acoustic guitar except it has a port on the guitar to connect to an amplifier. Thank you in advance.

  I recommend that you go with an Ibanez, since they're far better than most guitars in their price range. They're built like rocks, sound incredible and are often nicer than guitars costing twice as much. They've got thinner necks and lower action (strings closer to the fretboard) than most guitars, which makes it much easier to move smoothly between chords and notes. I bought a second-hand Ibanez more than 20 years ago figuring I'd use it to learn and then upgrade to a better guitar. I eventually did get more guitars, but the cheap old Ibanez is still my primary guitar for both recording and playing live because it sounds and plays better than anything else I've tried. And my brother, who owns a recording studio and swears only Martins and Gibsons are worth owning, often borrows my Ibanez for recording projects because the sound is so pristine. I own two Ibanez acoustics, one acoustic electric, three electrics and an Ibanez bass, and none of them has given me a moment of trouble.

  I'm a big fan of Fender electrics, but there's nothing exceptional about their acoustics (or acoustic/electrics). Fender doesn't actually manufacture them, but rather buys them from a mass producer in Asia and puts the Fender name on them. Their sound is nondescript, they don't feel particularly nice, and I've never known a professional guitarist who played a non-electric Fender.

  If you go to a guitar store and test drive a bunch of different guitars, chances are you'll find that some just feel more comfortable and natural in your hands than others. That should matter more than the brand name, since there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all guitar. I'll post some links to guitars worth considering, since they're very user-friendly and have thin necks and low action, as well as favorable reviews.

I need help finding info on a 1980's Yamaha ATV quad with reverse any help?
So I am trying to get my wifes old Yamaha Quad running and having a lot of trouble the big problem is I don't know exactly what type of quad it is to look up parts. she bought it around 90 to 91 and said it was used when she got it. On one of the fenders it says something about now having auto reverse or something like that the fender is now under a mountain of snow so can't find out exactly what is says and no the name is not on it I checked before pulling the ATV in the garage. I pulled a serial number of the engine and it reads 52 H - 027259 like I said it's got to be mid to late 80's it has an electric start which doesn't currently work and a pull start if that helps it acts like it wants to run it has spark and gas is getting to it when I pull the crank it it seems to be firing just not starting and I think knowing exactly what type of quad it is will help thanks in advance if you can help

hi, my friend and i were in my woods/backyard and my friend spotted a quad that had looked like it had been outside for weeks. him and his friend began pushing it down a hill and then i did too. then he wanted to hot-wire it. He used my tools and carved the seat open and the side of the plastic things that cover the top of the wheels to say mine now with a utility knife. I took off the part that goes around thing that tells you your mileage on the quad. he cut the ignition part where you put the key in and turn it, leaving it useless. All i did was push the ATV and take that part. so after two weeks of it being there the person that owns it finds it and tells my friend who tells him my name and number because i had told him about it before. His dad calls me (the kid is a senior in high school) saying the vehicle was stolen and vandalized. So i said my friend did most of the damage. All i did was push it and take off the receiver that is around the meter which was broken anyway. Now he wants me to pay for the damages and split the amount of pay with my friend which is totally unfair considering i didn't do anything. I need an estimate, for a Yamaha grizzly 600 that looks like its pretty old, but like i said i need an estimate on how much the parts would be. my mom said if she(meaning me) has to pay(with my money) more than 500 dollars that i am in big trouble. PLEASE HELP ME!! i NEED an estimate because i still have to push that damn quad uphill with my friend to back where we found it so this kids dad can bring it to a place to get it fixed and get an estimate on how much that all will cost. thank you very much

  The first thing to check is the oil level. Grossly overfilling the sump can lead to oil being drawn past the rings, into the combustion chamber ,where some of it will burn and cause smoke and the excess will be pushed passed the exhaust valves and out the exhaust pipe: exactly as you describe.

  If that is the problem, the fix is free; just drain out the excess oil.

  If you're unlucky, you have worn or broken piston rings and/or exhaust valve guides. Since you say it makes good power and pulls hard, worn or broken valve guides are more likely to be the problem than the rings.

Yamaha warrior 2001 350 ATV carb problem?
Okay so recently my quad started acting up, when i "goose it" my quad backfires some times but most the time it just flat out starts to die and finally stalls and will not start unless it sits for about 5 mintues. I know it is the carb because i used my buddies and my quad ran fine with his. Now my question is what could cause this in the carb?

I have dont the following
-Cleaned it
-Put in new jets same size
-Did the clicky pen trick so the accel pump plunger doesnt stick, now it is very spring thats good.
-tryed adjusting the fuel/air screw on the bottom.
-Looked for cracks in the float
-Inspected and confirmed all parts move correct (to my knowledge)
-Replaced the rubber intake boot

What else could i check or should i just buy a whole new one?

  For parts, check out www.rockymountainatv.com They have lots of parts, and are priced pretty good. For brands, its basically up to you. Look around on the internet, as there are tons of parts out there for each area you are looking at.

  I would replace the spark plug, add fresh gas with octane booster (Mexican gas is hard on those small engines). If that doesn't help,clean the carb and go from there, pretty sure the "exploding" is a shot plug.

its a 1999 yamaha bear tracker 250cc the person im buying it off of said the carburetor is shot bad he said he thinks the jets are gone out of it but he said you can sill drive it. the battery is ruined so we will have to get a new one. it tried to start when we jumped it off but the gas tank was empty. its been setting for a year has brand new mud lights on the back but are flat i guess cause it set there so long. we tried to push it but the back tires wouldn't turn at all he said it was because of the flat tires is this true? he is wanting 0 for it. the only thing im worried about is the shifter thing on the side of the engine that puts it into drive, neutral, and reverse. i heard some times they kick out and to make it worse the breaks are gone. how can you fix the shifter to take care of the problem. i looked around and parts ain't so easy to come buy for this atv. where do you buy your parts. most of all is it worth the 0.

  If you are mechanically inclined and would do the work yourself, go for it. I have done quite a few projects similar to this and have always come out ok. If it runs at all now, it isn't missing the jets, probably just needs a good carb cleaning, worst case carb rebuild, which isn't expensive at all. The Mud Lites would be a huge plus, most of my projects have had bald tires. I would have to see it in person to answer everything right on, but sounds like it would make a sweet little ATV with a little work. I buy most of my parts off eBay.   A bearing is a steel roller bearing. A bushing is usually a hard plastic busing found in the a-frames of dirt bikes and ATVs. Usually they come in a kit with a new pin and washers. I'm sure it does need new bushings as they wear out often. Best bet is to buy the rebushing kit at your local Yamaha distributor. It sounds like you're not sure of what you need. You can save money on-line but need to know exactly what you need.

Hi. I might buy a yfz450 in about a year or two because I have always wanted a yamaha atv since I was a kid but I want to know everything before i buy one. I will put parts and upgrades and all that when I get it but I want to know the difference between yfz450r/x because I don't have a clue, the only difference between the standard and R series I know about is that the R series is fuel injected, is the X series fuel injected too and what is the main difference between the R and X series. When I get one I will mainly use it on the roads and all and may sometimes take it to the woods. The main thing I want and I think everyone wants is the speed. Please let me know the differences between the two.

  the r is wider than the x. the r is built with an aluminum-frame and it has EFI which comes virtually race ready. and it is a full 50 inches wide.
  the x has the same treatment only it has the mikuni efi system it also has extremely high level suspension components. and its narrower then the r.

What's wrong with my ATV?
I just got a used Yamaha timber-wolf 1992 model 2x4. It used to belong to my father. I guess the ATV has been sitting in a garage for the past 2 years. When I got it it wouldn't even turn on. So I went out and bought a new battery. I also replaced the spark plug and air filter. I tried to clean the carburetor, but the part that comes apart is stuck together and wouldn't come apart. So i just sprayed some carb cleaner in all of the holes on the carb and inside the pipe thing on it. I've also drained the gas and put new in it. The ATV turns over now, but won't run. It will fire up if you spray starting fluid in air intake. But it only revs up fully and then dies after like 3 or 4 seconds. What would be my problem here and how could I fix it. I could take it to some guy that said he would fix it, but my mom is worried about cost. He said he'd fix it for 750. If I do end up having to take it to him or the shop what would the price range from to get it fixed based on my problems? (answer all above questions please)

ok i got this yamaha raptor 660 from a car lot the guy there just took it as a trade in but never rode it himself he didn't know much about it so i was just wondering how to exactly to put this atv in reverse and yes it has it i know you put it and neutral but here the tricky part the reverse switch looks like a key top and you turn in to go into reverse i was just wondering do you put the atv in neutral twist switch and hold (it don't stay in a on position for example starting a car twist key until starts then goes back a bit if you get what i mean)then have clutch in and shift down i know reverse works cuz i did it before i would just like know exact procedure before i break it somehow

Need to get new bushings for ATV is this the same as bearings?
Recently bought a 97 yamaha timberwolf 250 for my daughter. I was told when I bought it that it will need some new bushings. I've been looking for parts online but this has been confusing me. If a seller only tells you it needs new bushings what would you buy? The results that I'm getting are parts that include bushings but I have not found just bushings alone. Is there another name for them? I have someone who is going to replace them for me but he has been no help in finding the parts needed. Thanks in advance

How much to ask for Warrior ATV?
I have a 95 Yamaha Warrior with a lot of work done to it. Stroker crank, CP .030 over piston, stage 2 hot cam, new starter and battery, K&N filter and adapter for air box, carb has been jetted and has a DG pipe and new low handle bars. A lot more extras. I am only wanting to know how much to ask for it as a lot of people keep asking. It has not ran at all since the new parts have been installed. I paid 1500 alone completely stock when i first bought it.

QUESTION:
I need help with my rear brakes on my Big Bear 400?
The cam arm on my rear brake drum will pull forward but will not release back. I've taken everything a part and cleaned it all up, but still doesn't work. I can pull it back with my hand, it just won't do it on its own. Any ideas on what i can do to fix this. My atv is a 2004 yamaha big bear 400.

What all should I buy?
I want to buy some aftermarket things for my Yamaha Raptor 250 like a pipe and things like that to make it louder and faster and more race oriented like graphics. Along with aftermarket parts for my ATV I would like to buy some gear and a jersey. What are some good brands that are durable and yet look good and are a reasonable price because i am on a limited budget, after all, I'm only 14 and earn money by mowing yards. But anyway, let me know what some things are that i should buy because hopefully if I make my quad more race oriented and have all of the things I need to race, my parents will give in to letting me race.   I would offer 10.00 for it. that thing is one old and looks pretty well beat. find something newer. people are having a hard time selling atvs and can talk people down. i bought my 02 400ex 2 years ago for 2,500 and it was in very good shape still had stock tires on it. after i put about 3 grand into it with aftermarket stuff im lucky if i can sell if for 1,500.

lol,,,,,plz hellp me, the outer part of my bearing is stuck in the front hub on my yamaha warrior 350 atv. when i tried to git my bearing out it came a part and left the outer part in the hub. it is sezed to the hub and i can't git it out plzzzzzzz hellp

Good Afternoon...forget the good, as our country has descended into lunacy.

I have spent most of the day on two conference calls relative to the subject line above, and I must say I am rather concerned about the fate of our sport and industry. Not to mention our local communities for the further loss of jobs and $$ that our industry brings in each year. It is certainly that dire..believe me.

As of yesterday, all the OEMs had to pull for sale all new youth minicycles and atvs for those under the age of 13...this under order of the CPSC due to lead content of plastics and certain metals. As of yesterday, a dealer or private individual can no longer provide parts or service, to these affected machines, in which there is a possibility that those same parts may contain lead...no oil changes, plastic, levers, engine cases, etc, etc..goggles, helmets, clothing, knee braces..you name it. You may think that is just for new machines, but it is for everything new and used.

The CPSC also ruled that machines under 85cc are considered toxic to the health of young children.

Effective yesterday, Honda has pulled replacement parts from their service system for these machines pending lead certification...this takes 400 days. KTM, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha are doing the same thing. If you have a 1,2,3 year old machine, you won't be able to buy most parts for it very soon.

Yamaha is sending out restrictions to its dealers saying that an 85cc bike can only be sold, and should only be operated by someone over the age of 13.

Now to the fun part for us as a race promoter.

Because the manufacturers are now issuing these guidelines, we as promoters cannot allow a youth under the age of 13 to participate for two reasons.
We are allowing someone to participate in a sanctioned activity on a vehicle that has been determined by the manufacturer and the CPSC to be unsafe for that age level.
We are allowing someone to participate in a sanctioned activity on a vehicle that the CPSC has determined is a toxic substance.
If you think I am joking, consider the following
MX Sports is considering removing youth classes from the Loretta Lynn's program, GNCC, and ATV Nationals...we run all three of these series and I can tell you that these classes make up over 1/3 of our entries and more than half of our attendance.
The AMA will be forced to ban youths under 13 from any AMA amateur or pro competition due to legal ramifications. The same will apply to local districts and sanctioning bodies, as insurance will not be available to cover this exposure.
The lifeblood of our sport are these kids..if they cannot participate, they will find something else to do, and we will not get them back. They will not race, watch, or buy products. That means Mom, Dad and older brothers/sisters won't be there either.
Unadilla would most likely not participate in any form of amateur racing..with only half or less of the entries left, it wouldn't be financially possible.
DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION YET!

There are two efforts going on right now to get a temporary stay granted by the CPSC for "Off Road Vehicles." The MIC (Motorcycle Industry Council) and Missouri State House Rep Mike Sense(#4 in line in the MO st govt) are both developing grass roots letter campaigns through websites to develop a ground swell of support for this stay. Keep in mind this is only temporary, and unless a Federal injunction or legislation is developed, this isn't going away.

There are several opinions floating around on this subject saying that our thinking is flawed and that only the sale of new units is affected...if that is the case, why are helmet, goggle, sneakers, sunglasses, OEM parts and accessories, and dealer service being pulled for these units???

I will leave you with this..if indeed this is overblown, and we are right that we shouldn't be affected by this, it still doesn't mean that we can't/won't be sued by someone using this logic, and worse yet, convince a jury that the above is true. If it gets that far, you will have spent nearly a million $$ in your own defense, just to prove you were right all along.

I will get you info on the two websites, and I encourage you to beg everyone you know that rides, owns, promotes, or attends an off road sporting event to get everyone they know in the same manner to fill out one of these letters...Every Mom Dad and Kid should individually enter their name. Then they should contact their local representatives too.

Can you use gasket paper on it's own?
I'm doing a clutch job on my atv and want to temporarily put the crank case cover back on until my parts come in the mail. I ordered the OEM gasket from yamaha but I want to save that for when I get everything together. I saw this gasket making paper at my local auto parts store. Could I just trace my Yamaha gasket on that cut it out and just bolt it on or is there more to it than that? Do I need to put any liquid gasket on with the paper gasket? Or do I need to oil the paper gasket? Sorry I've never used paper gaskets before.

ok currently i have a paid off 2007 yamaha grizzly 660 4x4 atv that i could sell. dont ride it enough. i have a 2007 yamaha v star 650 that will be paid off this fall. i currently live in an apartment and would like my own home but when buying a home rather than renting you have a lot more up keep and expenses. should i sell my atv and v star and get my harley that i really want and still be happy in my apt since i dont really need a house,or ride a small 650 v star and use the money from the atv for a beginnings of a house down payment? either way i have to have a bike. the more expensive up keep could really slow down the harley fund after buying a house. if i sell the atv and v star i could have a mid 90's good shape harley or 3/4 paid off new harley. im 21 make 60,000 a year, single, no kids. great credit i also have a 2004 F350 crew cab long bed with a 6.0 powerstroke that i can not part with.

  There may never be a better time during your life to buy a home. If you are careful about what you buy, the maintenance should not be too steep for the first few years. Talk to a Realtor to find out what is available before you make up your mind. After you have looked at houses the decision will be easier - whichever way it goes.

2007 Kawasaki Brute Force 650?
I bought a Brute Force last summer and I love it. But I wanted tro try and find some performance upgrades for it that I could put on it in the future but it seems that all the 4 wheeler parts stores only carry parts for the racing quads. I looked online and searched Google, and I also got a 500 page catalog from an ATV place and they didnt even have exhaust kits for my quad. They offer all kinds of things for the Yamaha 700FI's and others, but I seem to be stuck on finding upgrades for my ATV. Anyone know of some places online that sell upgrades for Utility/Sport 4 wheelers?

does any one know the reputation of this bike?
I'm wanting to buy a enduro motorbike, So I was looking on e-bay and and found this one at VBIKE USA ATV AND TTL AUTO SALES. New 250cc Enduro Motorcycle Free Shipping. I can't find a manufacturer name like Yamaha, Honda, Husqvarna, or the ones you would think you see for a motorbike, the only thing they show is Other Makes. Now I don't think this is a brand name or a manufacturer. I'm thinking somethings wrong here or at least something telling me I should steer away, but the picture of the bike shows a nice straight looking bike, I mean the seat still has the plastic covering it from the factory line where it was made. Well the price is dirt cheap almost unbelievable, I'm kinda thinking if and when it did break down and needed to be fixed would the parts be readily available or next to impossible to get. On the other hand I'm thinking the price for the bike is so cheap why not buy the bike thinking I would get around 2 to 5 years before it did break down, and if the parts weren't accessible then just junk it. Does any one know or heard of a motorbike that is made by Other Makes. Just not sure if I should buy this bike or keep looking. Has anyone had any experience with this make and model.

  That bike is a Chinese special in the worst way. You are absolutely correct to question the availability of parts or support. However, you are incorrect to hope for 2-5 years before it breaks. Unless you are an ace mechanic/tuner and master fabricator of machined parts I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole.

  Rule of thumb - If it simply says "motorcycle", or "dirt bike" or "sport bike" or "scooter" or "cruiser" without mentioning the make, it is from a 1st class Chinese sweat shop that will probably be churning out crappy toasters next week instead of motorcycles.

im looking to buy a brand new sport atv, i have a question for anyone who knows what there talking about, the bike i have in mind is a 2010 yamaha raptor 700r special edition, im wanting to know if the bike is too small for me (6'4, & 350lbs) if the raptor strikes out im thinking about getting a 2006 can-am (brp) ds650, will the raptor be fine for me, and don't worry i plan to put alot of aftermarket parts on it to suit me perfect

  The Raptor is a beast of a machine, it wont under-perform. In the reviews the riders said it was so powerful that they could barely keep the front wheels down. So being a tall big guy it should be perfect for you. Ride safe.

QUESTION:
Will my motorcycle wheelie?
I own a 1985 Yamaha FZ750, completely rebuilt engine and carbs with scorpion exhaust and a stage 3 dynojet kit. coverted into a naked bike with aluminum subframe and streetfighter tail. About 35 pounds of parts have been removed. So I have been trying to wheelie and cannot for the life of me. I have always been able to do them well with dirtbikes and Atv's but just cannot with this bike. It has a good chunk of power and the wheel will pop a couple inches off ground when I really open the throttle but the clutch wheelies I just can't do. When I dump/let off the clutch when creeping about 15mph it'll either bog down or just beeline straight with no wheelie. So is the bike too heavy at about 420lbs dry weight? Is the clutch slipping? Or is it me? I am also changing the sprockets to -1 front/+2 rear hoping that'll help. Thanks

  That bike could wheelie bone stock, so unless you messed it up while doing performance mods, DUH! of course.
